On August 13th a fundraising event on the ninth anniversary of Caritas Mariana Kenya in Thika a fundraising event for the construction of a new school was held.

Guests of honour were a high representative of the Austrian Embassy in Nairobi, the assemblyman for Thika District in the ministry of education, the president of our partner organisation Ripples International and representatives of local bank institutes such as Ecobank, Chase Bank, CFC Bank, KCB Bank, Bank of the North.

Also we were delighted to welcome representatives of the local community ("chief of the area") and our longtime friend Chief Michael Kariuki amongst our guests.

Besides a dense entertainment program a raffle was held, offering prices such as a mobile phone, a CD-Radio-Cassette-Recorder, a laptop computer and a motorcicle. The winners were not present at the event, thus the prices are still waiting to be picked up.

Total revenue of the event was 467,820 Kenyan Shillings (about 3,700 Euros). The banks provided further donations.

We hope to raise further donations and sponsorings for the school construction, so that the first class rooms can be finished by the start of the new school year January 2012.
