A long lasting dream came into reality:

An Jan. 9th 2012 our school wennt into operation, including 3 pre school and 4 lower primary school classes. With big effort the first phase could be finished in time.

Although the construction hast been finished in time and classes have been started in the beginning of January without problems, our school still lacks school benches and chairs, teacher's tesks and chairs and tetbooks for the teachers, a kitchen (in Kenia school is all day and they will be fed by the school at noon) and a water tank. We are still waiting for electricity.
Some teaching aids could be purchased on credit.

As a total a sum of 53.000 Euros could be raised for the first phase, 45.000 coming from Austria, the rest was raised in fundraising activities in Kenya, which is considerable. The involvement and support of the local people is very positive for us.

In November and December good teachers could be recruited.

Normally students leave home very early 6 days a week, only to return at 7pm, having to complete homework and wash their clothes. In spite of the long class hours, reading competence in Kenya is in the lower third of the continent.

Our school is open from 7:30 to 4pm, Monday through Friday only, so the children can enjoy their lesure time and gather strenght. Also the teachers can find time to receive additioal training,thus uplifting the quality of teaching.
